How a Living Building comes to life

In order to push green design forward, sometimes it is necessary to take on new construction challenges. The more we push ourselves to build as sustainably as possible, the easier it will be to achieve the green city of the not-to-distant future. So, when the Bertschi School in Seattle needed a new science building, we jumped at the chance to join a local team that was building the addition according to the Living Building Challenge requirements. Skanska USA, along with local green building professionals, formed the Restorative Design Collective, offering pro bono/at cost services to design and build the science addition for the school.

Beautifully done – thank you! I teach a class on sustainable landscaping and usually talk about the Living Building Challenge. This is a great visual introduction to a complex program.
